Microsoft is introducing AI-powered shortcuts, referred to as AI Actions, directly into the File Explorer of Windows 11. These options enable you to right-click on a file and instantly access Windows AI tools for tasks such as blurring a photo's background, removing objects, or summarizing content from Office documents.
In the latest Dev Channel builds, Microsoft is testing four image-related AI actions. These include Bing visual search for discovering similar images online, background blur and object removal features from the Photos app, and the background removal tool in Paint.
Similar AI actions for Office files will soon enter testing as well, allowing you to summarize documents stored in OneDrive or SharePoint, or rapidly create AI-generated lists from your files. Access to these Office AI capabilities will initially be limited to Microsoft 365 commercial subscribers with a Copilot license; consumer support is planned for a later date.
While it remains unclear whether these AI actions can be turned off in the context menu, they join a recently added "Ask Copilot" option in File Explorer’s right-click menu.

According to the Windows Insider team, these changes provide "a more organized, personalized, and engaging feed," and will incorporate "Copilot-curated stories."
The latest Dev Channel build introduces a new "User Interaction-Aware CPU Power Management" function. Microsoft explains that this OS-level enhancement lowers power usage on laptops and tablets. When the system detects a period of inactivity, Windows automatically applies power-efficient policies to conserve energy—all while instantly restoring full performance as soon as you resume using the device.
