Meta to Test AI Pendant Hardware Next Year Using Limitless Technology
According to a recently leaked internal memo reported by Xinxi Bao, tech giant Meta is quietly developing an AI-powered wearable pendant, with testing planned for 2027. The device's core technology is largely derived from the research of AI hardware startup Limitless, which Meta acquired at the end of 2025.
Limitless had previously released an AI pendant that could be clipped onto a shirt or worn as a necklace, focusing on voice recording and smart analysis. At the time, Meta stated the acquisition was aimed at accelerating development of its own AI wearable devices.

Early AI wearable devices faced widespread consumer pushback due to privacy concerns, limited practicality, and misaligned market positioning. Against this backdrop, Meta's bold investment signals a shift in the underlying hardware ecosystem. Beyond the AI pendant, the memo also reveals that Meta plans to expand its existing line of AI glasses and introduce a corporate subscription service called "Wearables for Work."
This series of aggressive strategic moves suggests that Meta is attempting to reverse the financial decline of its hardware-focused Reality Labs division through a software-hardware integration commercialization strategy. Data shows the division recorded a massive $4 billion loss in the first quarter of 2026. This move not only underscores leading companies' continued confidence in portable AI interaction devices but also marks the evolution of AI hardware competition from niche tech toys toward more mature enterprise-level and ecosystem-level markets.
