Meta Super Intelligence Lab Unveils Muse Image Generation Model, Now Available on Instagram and WhatsApp
Meta officially unveiled its latest AI image generation model, Muse Image, on July 7th. As the inaugural release from Meta’s Super Intelligence Lab, this tool is accessible at no cost via the Meta AI app and is now integrated into Instagram and WhatsApp. Users can produce high-quality visuals simply by describing their requirements in natural language.

Meta highlighted several practical applications: generating a photo of yourself at a historical landmark, removing distracting background elements, or creating custom QR codes. Muse Image excels at rendering text within images, enabling the creation of clear operational guides or thematic infographics, offering utility that surpasses standard image-to-text tools.
Pre-set panels simplify the process, allowing you to redesign rooms using real products.
To make usage more accessible, Meta AI features a pre-set prompt panel with one-click options for tasks like restoring old photos, visualizing trendy hairstyles, or transforming selfies into claymation characters or 16-bit game heroes. Users can also use Meta AI to redesign a room using actual products from Facebook Marketplace, providing a visual preview of different styles. This transforms the experience from mere image generation to a practical shopping preview.
During creation, Muse Image collaborates with Muse Spark for multi-step backend planning, including layout design, real-time web research, and the intelligent merging of multiple visual references. Users can reference Instagram accounts within the Meta AI app to incorporate public photos into their creations, with the option to disable this feature. For adjustments, a marker icon allows direct drawing, sketching, or annotation on the image. The AI retains full conversation context, facilitating continuous style adjustments or element additions and removals.

30 AI effects for Instagram Stories, with video models in development.
Beyond image generation, Muse Image offers over 30 AI effects for Instagram Stories, including customizable filters for modifying existing photos. The feature enabling direct image generation via conversation in WhatsApp is currently available in select regions, with broader rollout planned. Daily usage is free, though a paid subscription from Meta is required for high-volume creation.
Muse Image will soon expand to additional interfaces across Facebook, Messenger, Instagram, and WhatsApp. Advertisers will gain access to this model via Advantage+ creative tools in the coming weeks. Meta also announced that Muse Video, a video generation model, is currently under development. Over the past year, Meta has launched various AI tools, including the Creator assistant and the Pocket game programming tool. Having previously faced criticism for its ambiguous AI strategy, Meta is now accelerating its efforts to reshape perceptions through tangible product launches and sustained infrastructure investment.
