On June 9, Meituan's Core Local Commerce (CLC) unveiled a new organizational restructuring, formally creating an "AI Transformation" division. This move signals an upgrade in the company's strategic focus on AI-driven transformation and B2B industrial applications.
The newly formed AI Transformation division will concentrate on AI-powered B2B services and deep internal AI integration. It will be led by Mu Yao, former general manager of Dianping. In terms of reporting structure, Mu Yao now reports directly to Wang Puzhong, CEO of Meituan's Core Local Commerce, rather than to Li Shubin, Senior Vice President and platform head. Within Meituan's internal organization, this AI division stands alongside core business units like food delivery and flash sales, operating as a first-level business unit under the CLC system.
As head of this new division, Mu Yao brings extensive operational experience. During his time as Dianping's general manager, he oversaw product upgrades, content ecosystem development, and international expansion. He remained in that role until April 2026, when Tao Xuexuan, a Meituan vice president, took over as Dianping's head, and Mu Yao departed. This new appointment positions him to take on the central role of using AI to strengthen Meituan's local commerce operations.
