Google’s Veo3.1Lite Cuts Video Generation Costs by Over 50%, Enables 1080p Multi-Format Output
On March 31, 2026, Google DeepMind launched Veo3.1Lite , its most cost-effective video generation model to date. It maintains the same generation speed as Veo3.1Fast while reducing operational costs by more than half. According to the official pricing, Veo3.1Lite starts at $0.05 per second for 720p and $0.08 per second for 1080p. This release means Google has achieved higher commercial efficiency through model distillation or architectural optimization while ensuring efficient output.

Veo3.1Lite is now integrated into Gemini API and Google AI Studio . Functionally, the model generates video clips ranging from 4 to 8 seconds, covering both text-to-video and image-to-video workflows, and supports various aspect ratios like vertical and horizontal. To support the launch, Google also announced a price reduction for Veo3.1Fast starting April 7, with 4K resolution generation reduced to $0.30 per second.
This strategic move comes as OpenAI announced the shutdown of Sora, leaving a market vacuum. Amid intensified global competition in video generation, Google's move aims to counter strong challenges from the Chinese market, although models like Alibaba's Seedance2.0
