Google is currently piloting two innovative features—"Personal Intelligence" and "AI Note Editing"—within its research and note-taking platform, NotebookLM. This signals the tool's rapid evolution from a basic document reader into an adaptive personal intelligence collaboration hub.
In early June 2026, Google rolled out a major architectural overhaul for NotebookLM, migrating its underlying dialogue model to Gemini 3.5 Flash, integrating Antigravity-driven software technology, and equipping each notebook with a dedicated cloud code execution environment. These upgrades substantially boosted its capability to handle complex tasks and elevate output quality.
These newly revealed test features closely align with two major industry trends: "deep collaboration" and "long-term memory." The Personal Intelligence feature enables NotebookLM to retain context across conversations, storing and referencing past interactions. To address privacy concerns among research and enterprise users, it offers a manual toggle to disable the feature and review stored data. Data interactions remain strictly within the NotebookLM application, with no integration into other Google services like Gmail or Docs.
The other feature, "AI Note Editing," closes the loop between the canvas and the conversation. It lets users select note text directly and send it to the chat window as context for AI-driven rewriting and refinement, effectively eliminating the frustration of being unable to modify generated results.
