Google teams with DeepMind to launch interactive search powered by Gemini Flash 3.5
During Tuesday’s Google I/O keynote, Google unveiled the most significant overhaul of its search engine in over 25 years. The era of static "ten blue links" is officially over, giving way to a dynamic, AI-powered, and highly interactive search experience.
At the heart of this update is the revamped "Smart Search Box." This new interface features an AI-driven query suggestion system and automatically expands to handle longer, conversational, and complex queries, eliminating the need for users to toggle specific modes before searching.

Here are the three key features of this Google search upgrade:
Generative User Interface (UI): In collaboration with DeepMind, Google has introduced a dynamic visual system powered by Gemini Flash 3.5. For instance, searching for "black holes in space" no longer yields a simple list of links; instead, it generates interactive widgets and visual effects that evolve based on follow-up questions.
24/7 "Information Agents": Users can create and customize multiple intelligent agents that run continuously in the background. These agents function as an advanced version of "Google Alerts," tracking online updates and interpreting data contexts (such as real-time financial metrics) to deliver comprehensive updates when specific thresholds are met.

Customizable "Mini-Apps": Leveraging the new intelligent agent development platform, Google Antigravity, users can build stateful, personalized applications using their own data (like calendar entries) through natural language commands. Examples include meal planning or fitness tracking tools.

Google’s AI overview currently serves over 2.5 billion monthly active users, while conversational search mode has surpassed 1 billion monthly active users. CEO Sundar Pichai emphasized the company’s commitment to delivering advanced models that are more powerful, faster, and cost-effective to drive widespread adoption.
Launch Timeline:
The new smart search box launched this week, with AI overview now supporting follow-up questions in AI mode. The "Generative User Interface" will be available to all users this summer. Meanwhile, "mini-app" creation and "information agents" powered by Antigravity will initially be exclusive to Google AI Pro and Ultra subscribers this summer, with long-term plans to eventually offer personal AI agents like "Spark" for free.
However, this major shift is expected to further reduce traffic for publishers and media sites reliant on advertising, accelerating the restructuring of the industry ecosystem.
