Google Chrome Redesigns Android Toolbar With Dedicated Gemini Button for Multi-Tab AI Analysis
As reported by Android Headlines , Google is currently testing a fresh bottom navigation layout in Chrome for Android (version 150), featuring a newly integrated Gemini AI shortcut button.
This update signals a major shift in how users interact with AI on mobile browsers. The Gemini feature now goes beyond summarizing a single active page, allowing users to cross-reference, compare, and summarize content across multiple open tabs—effectively bringing the desktop sidebar’s deep search capabilities to mobile devices.
Tech leaker Leopeva64 first spotted this design. The feature is currently available only to users with the bottom navigation bar enabled, with the AI button positioned between the "Home" and "Tabs" icons.
The update also refines core navigation elements: a dedicated back button now sits to the left of the address bar, while the three-dot menu has moved to the far right. Google has been evaluating this feature internally for roughly three months. Following a recent desktop update that addressed UK regulatory concerns, Google plans to roll out this advanced mobile layout globally to iOS devices next month.
This upgrade represents a strategic push by Google to make AI central to the mobile ecosystem, transforming mobile browsers from simple "single-page viewers" into powerful tools for "multi-source information aggregation and analysis," thereby enhancing user efficiency in accessing and processing online content.
