ElevenLabs, a voice AI company, has launched Music v2, the latest version of its music-generation model, which can shift genres mid-track. The model is designed to handle complex vocals and composition. This release comes nearly ten months after the startup introduced the first version of its music generation model.
According to ElevenLabs, the model can transition from opera to heavy metal and back, deliver fast rap without losing coherence, and incorporate non-musical sound effects into a track. Artists can also select a segment of a song and regenerate it using prompts while leaving the rest of the track unchanged.
Additionally, instead of generating short clips, artists can build a song section by section—including the intro, verse, and chorus—and then stitch them together. ElevenLabs notes that the model performs more reliably across languages, lyrics, vocals, and arrangements.
Over the past few months, AI labs have been competing to release models capable of producing professional-grade music. Google, Stability AI, and Suno have also unveiled new music generation models that can create longer and more complex tracks. At the Google I/O developer conference, Google introduced features for easily creating covers, editing songs by sections, and generating music videos with its Flow Music tool.
ElevenLabs emphasizes that the new model is built on licensed data and cleared for commercial use, allowing users to freely use the tracks. Securing agreements with labels is crucial, as other AI music startups like Suno and Udio have faced lawsuits over copyright issues.
The new model is available on ElevenLabs’ ElevenCreative tool for marketing and branding teams, as well as on the newly launched ElevenMusic platform for creating AI-generated songs. Coming soon, it will also be available via the ElevenAPI.
