Doubao to Launch Paid Professional Version with Six Vertical Productivity Services, Addresses Quality and Pricing Rumors
On June 3, ByteDance’s AI app Doubao confirmed through its official channels the launch of Doubao Pro, built to support professionals in their daily work. This version covers six specialized verticals: software development, data analysis, professional design, process automation, financial analysis, and scientific research. The move signals a deeper push into industry-specific and high-productivity scenarios, while still keeping Doubao’s general-purpose strengths intact.

When it comes to service models and pricing — a topic many users care about — Doubao outlined a dual-track strategy: everyday features for the general public, including search, Q&A, writing, image generation, and voice and video conversations, will remain free, with new models and capabilities rolling out over time to improve the experience. At the same time, the upcoming Pro version will also offer a certain amount of free usage within set limits.
Doubao Pro is currently in testing, and full details will be announced at the official launch. Separately, the team issued a firm clarification regarding recent rumors that it was downgrading basic features to push users into paid memberships, calling those claims completely false and noting they were spread by multiple marketing accounts sharing the same IP address.
The development and rollout of Doubao Pro reflects how domestic AI apps are moving fast beyond general entertainment and basic assistance toward professional-grade tools that deeply embed into workflows. In a fiercely competitive AI app market, Doubao is working to strike the right balance between retaining a large user base and exploring commercial revenue, using a differentiated approach that keeps core features free while selectively upgrading high-end scenarios.
This not only reinforces its position as a widely adopted AI application but also helps unlock the productive value of large models in vertical industries.
