China’s Large Model Queries Surpass US for Third Straight Week; Tencent Hy3 Hits 2.66 Trillion

Amid intensifying global AI competition, recent data reveals China’s large model weekly usage has surpassed that of the United States for three consecutive weeks, underscoring robust technological capabilities. According to OpenRouter’s latest figures, global AI large model usage totaled 26.9 trillion tokens from May 11 to May 17, marking a 4.7% week-over-week increase. China’s models accounted for 7.693 trillion tokens, compared to 4.24 trillion from the U.S., meaning China’s usage was 1.81 times higher, further cementing its global leadership.
Tencent’s Hy3 preview and DeepSeek-V4-Flash lead the global usage rankings, both originating from China. Hy3 preview recorded 2.66 trillion tokens weekly, a remarkable 210% surge from the prior week. Having ranked first in the previous two weeks, Hy3 preview (free) maintained its top position even after transitioning to a paid model post-trial, highlighting Tencent’s effective AI strategy.
The sustained growth of China’s large models reflects not only technological progress but also strong market demand. As a key innovator, Tencent has been instrumental in driving the practical application of AI, attracting significant user engagement and usage.
As AI technology advances, more companies and organizations are expected to accelerate their strategies and compete in this dynamic field. Both technological innovation and market feedback serve as critical drivers for the industry’s ongoing development.
