Broadcom Targets Over $100B in AI Chip Revenue by 2027, Taking On NVIDIA

In the AI computing market, long dominated by NVIDIA, chip design giant Broadcom is showing strong growth ambitions. During a quarterly earnings call on Wednesday, CEO Hock Tan predicted that the company's annual AI chip revenue would surpass the $100 billion milestone by 2027, sending shares up over 4% in after-hours trading.
Broadcom's optimism stems from the intense infrastructure race among tech giants. Alphabet, Microsoft, Amazon, and Meta are projected to invest at least $63 billion in AI infrastructure by 2026. Unlike NVIDIA's general-purpose GPU model, Broadcom is capturing market share with a custom chip strategy, helping major companies build computing engines tailored to their specific algorithms.
Hock Tan outlined the progress of Broadcom's partnerships with key clients, noting that their order volumes are already rivaling those of NVIDIA and AMD:
Regarding Anthropic: Broadcom aims to deliver 1 gigawatt (GW) of TPUs to the company by 2026, with demand projected to surge to 3 GW by 2027.
Regarding OpenAI: Broadcom expects to deliver its first custom AI chip for OpenAI in 2027, with supply volume exceeding 1 GW.
Regarding Meta: Addressing rumors of a slowdown in Meta's business, Hock Tan directly refuted them. He confirmed that Meta's custom accelerator MTIA roadmap is on track, and Broadcom has already begun formal shipments.
Beyond the strong business outlook, Broadcom also announced a new stock buyback program worth $10 billion.
