Banks Launch AI-Themed Cards, Earn Large Model Tokens and AI Benefits
Recent launches by several banks feature AI-themed credit and debit cards that integrate intelligent perks like large model tokens and AI membership services into conventional banking cards, aiming to draw young users and tech professionals through the AI ecosystem. On July 15, China UnionPay announced a partnership with multiple commercial banks to develop an intelligent entity-themed credit card, further blending AI benefits with financial consumption scenarios.

Since June, over a dozen banks—including China Merchants Bank, Agricultural Bank of China, Ping An Bank, and China Everbright Bank—have jointly launched AI-themed bank cards in collaboration with UnionPay, American Express, and large model providers like Kimi and Alibaba Cloud. The perks now extend beyond traditional points redemption to include AI computing power tokens, AI membership services, smart agent tools, and access to professional databases.
Currently, banks' "swipe to earn tokens" programs follow three main models: one targets developers and engineers by offering large token packages for model calls and development needs; another converts daily spending into computing power points that can be exchanged for AI membership services; the third provides cloud service coupons to subsidize office costs for tech professionals.
Banks' deployment of AI bank cards aims to reach new customer segments like tech users and AI creators. As large model applications spread rapidly, tokens are emerging as a new digital asset. For professional users who frequently rely on AI tools, these benefits offer tangible value; however, for everyday consumers with low AI usage, the appeal of token perks remains limited.
Industry experts note that AI capabilities are becoming a new frontier for financial product innovation. Yet whether banks can revitalize the credit card market through AI benefits depends on the adoption of AI application scenarios and genuine user demand. Going forward, the deep integration of AI services with consumer finance may become a key path for banks to drive growth among younger customers.
