Baidu Forms Model Committee to Guide Large AI Development, Empowering Young Researchers to Drive Tech-Application Integration

As the large model landscape transitions from isolated breakthroughs to systematic operations, Baidu has launched the **Baidu Model Committee (BMC)**, its top-tier body for strategy and coordination. Staffed by **young researchers** with deep expertise in large model technologies, the BMC now oversees both the Basic Model Research Department (BMU) and the Applied Model Research Department (AMU). This structure enables end-to-end management, seamlessly connecting underlying tech development with product deployment.
This restructuring reflects Baidu’s strategy of “concentrating strengths to win decisive battles” amid intensifying AI rivalry. Previously, basic model teams and application teams often struggled to collaborate due to conflicting goals—the former chasing SOTA metrics, the latter prioritizing user experience and commercialization. The BMC is designed to bridge this gap, aligning technological innovation with product requirements.
According to insiders, BMC members are young scientists who have contributed to multiple iterations of the ERNIE large model, bringing comprehensive experience in algorithms, engineering, and productization. They will define the technical roadmap, prioritize resource allocation, establish cross-departmental collaboration, and review key projects, effectively integrating “technology-product-commerce.”
This strategic upgrade follows ERNIE Bot surpassing 200 million monthly active users. As AI enters the phase of “deep scenario cultivation,” merely increasing parameters is no longer enough to build a competitive moat. An **efficient closed-loop organizational capability** is now critical. Through the BMC, Baidu aims to accelerate an agile development model featuring “one model, multi-terminal reuse, and rapid iteration.” For instance, real-time feedback from search, maps, and health services will directly inform model optimization.
While global tech giants like Google (integrating DeepMind) and Microsoft (strengthening Copilot engineering) reorganize their AI structures, Baidu’s move is both a catch-up and a breakthrough. As large model competition deepens, those who maintain technological sharpness while bridging the implementation gap will win the future. By empowering its most model-savvy and product-focused young talent, Baidu may be making its boldest bet in the AGI era.
