Baidu Establishes BMC to Coordinate BMU and AMU for Integrated R&D

On May 15, Baidu launched the Baidu Model Committee (BMC) to oversee the company's large model development and deployment. This marks a major organizational shift in Baidu's AI strategy, with BMC handling the full process from research direction and technical planning to model training and business applications. The move signals that Baidu's large model development has entered a streamlined phase where technology and application are tightly integrated.
Under the new structure, the previous Basic Model Research Unit (BMU) and Application Model Research Unit (AMU) have been reorganized and now report directly to BMC. Sources indicate that the committee is made up of younger researchers with deep expertise in large model technology. Combined with recent reports of several top model experts joining Baidu, outside observers believe that BMC's core members include newly hired academic talents and engineering leaders.
As the global AI race shifts from simply scaling parameters to competing on efficiency and real-world application, Baidu's restructuring not only optimizes internal resources but also puts into practice a "technology-driven business" model. Through BMC's centralized coordination, Baidu aims to shorten the time from model innovation to product deployment, strengthening core capabilities while staying aligned with the demands of complex and evolving application environments.
