Apple Intelligence to Integrate Advanced GPT-5 AI in iOS 26
OpenAI unveiled its GPT-5 AI model on Thursday, though Apple confirmed to 9to5Mac that users won’t be able to access it via Apple Intelligence’s ChatGPT integration until iOS 26, iPadOS 26, and macOS Tahoe 26.
Apple Intelligence currently taps into OpenAI’s GPT-4o model for tasks such as answering specific Siri queries and supporting its Visual Intelligence tool, similar to Google Lens. Apple has publicly stated that its next major software releases are scheduled for "fall," with a likely public rollout next month. We’ve reached out to Apple to ask whether GPT-5 will be part of the developer or public beta versions of these updates, and if so, when it might become available.
GPT-5 launched for all ChatGPT users on Thursday, making it accessible even to free-tier subscribers. According to OpenAI, ChatGPT is now used by roughly 700 million people each week.
