Anthropic Unveils Mac Version of Claude Science App, Integrating Direct Access to 60+ Scientific Databases
Anthropic, a leader in AI innovation, has officially released Claude Science, a new desktop application now available in public beta for macOS and Linux. This launch represents a significant vertical expansion of the Claude ecosystem, complementing existing tools like Claude AI, Cowork, and Code.
Unlike standard general-purpose AI assistants, Claude Science does not introduce a new model. Instead, it leverages the user’s existing Claude subscription, enhanced with specialized scientific capabilities. It addresses key limitations of general large language models, such as the inability to execute complex research workflows, access scientific databases directly, or manage cluster operations. By providing experts with dedicated computing environments and preserving full process provenance, it allows researchers to focus on core scientific inquiry.
Claude Science features a high degree of professional integration, offering specialized modules for fields including genomics, single-cell analysis, proteomics, structural biology, and chemical informatics. To dismantle scientific data silos, the application establishes native connections with over 60 scientific databases and select domain-specific open models.
Notably, the application integrates deeply with NVIDIA’s BioNeMo Agent Toolkit, enabling native compatibility with life science models and libraries within BioNeMo. This includes cutting-edge tools like Evo2, Boltz-2, and OpenFold3. Users can run comprehensive analyses, perform database searches, and track every step from data preparation to publication using their own infrastructure.
The application is currently available across all subscription tiers, including Pro, Max, Team, and Enterprise.
