Anthropic Secures $6.5 Billion in Series H Funding, Introduces Claude Opus 4.8 Model with Enterprise-Grade Capabilities
Artificial intelligence startup Anthropic has finalized a successful Series H funding round that brought in up to $65 billion, pushing its post-money valuation to $96.5 billion and bringing it within striking distance of the trillion-dollar mark. Served as the final private financing cycle ahead of its initial public offering, this round was led by investment firms such as Altimeter Capital, Dragoneer, Greenoaks, and Sequoia Capital. In addition to these financial backers, strategic infrastructure partners including Samsung, SK Hynix, and Micron joined forces, with Amazon also contributing the previously committed $5 billion investment. The funds raised will be primarily allocated to advancing research in AI safety and explainability, expanding computing capabilities to keep up with rising market demand, and further developing its customer product ecosystem.

On the same day the funding round was closed, Anthropic unveiled its new Claude Opus4.8 model . This version demonstrates strong performance in agent-based tasks, advanced coding capabilities, reliability, and self-correction features. The company also intends to roll out models with performance on par with its top-tier cybersecurity model, Mythos, on a broader scale. Since the previous funding cycle, Anthropic has seen rapid growth driven by high demand for Claude Code from enterprise clients. At the start of this month, its annualized run rate revenue surpassed $47 billion, and analysts predict it will experience a 130% increase in revenue before achieving its first operating profit.
Today, the capital competition in the AI sector has reached an intense level. Following OpenAI’s $12.2 billion funding round that valued the company at $85.2 billion in March of this year, and SpaceX’s merger with xAI aimed at securing a $20 billion valuation, Anthropic’s substantial investment not only strengthens its position among the world’s leading generative AI platforms but also indicates that the large model-driven intelligent industry is moving rapidly toward an era characterized by commercial profitability and enhanced compliance measures.
