Anthropic, the AI company behind Claude, announced on Monday that it has confidentially filed for an initial public offering.
Valued at nearly $1 trillion, the company submitted a draft registration statement to the U.S. Securities and Exchange Commission for its planned IPO. Anthropic has not yet disclosed the number of shares or the price range, and noted that the offering will depend on market conditions and other factors.
The filing comes less than a week after Anthropic raised $65 billion in a Series H round that pushed its valuation to $965 billion. Co-led by Altimeter Capital, Dragoneer, Greenoaks, Sequoia Capital, Capital Group, Coatue, and D1 Capital Partners, the round attracted a range of institutional and strategic investors anticipating the IPO.
Anthropic's confidential filing lands during an already hot IPO season, which includes SpaceX's planned offering targeting a $2 trillion valuation. SpaceX is seeking to raise over $75 billion.
The move also comes as rival OpenAI continues raising funds, including a $122 billion round in March at an $852 billion post-money valuation, while preparing for its own IPO. OpenAI is expected to file, setting the stage for an IPO season that will pit the two largest AI labs against each other and test market interest in artificial intelligence.
Anthropic, now a major AI player with top-tier enterprise clients, was once considered an underdog in the large language model space. Founded in 2021 by former OpenAI employees, it was seen as a distant competitor to OpenAI and its ChatGPT chatbot.
The company has attracted investors and customers through the capabilities of Claude and its powerful Mythos model, which has been released on a limited basis. This has driven impressive revenue growth: Anthropic recently reported that its revenue run-rate exceeded $47 billion, up from $9 billion at the end of 2025.
Revenue growth could accelerate as Anthropic makes Mythos more widely available. The company unveiled Mythos in April, warning developers that the model had discovered thousands of high-severity bugs that needed to be fixed before public release.
According to Bloomberg, citing anonymous sources, the generative AI lab is expected to grant the European Union's cybersecurity agency access to Mythos.
