Reports suggested that Claude Pro subscribers might face additional charges for using high-capacity Opus series models, particularly via the Claude Code interface. This perceived shift has raised concerns among long-term users, who feel that core features previously included in the $20 monthly subscription have been effectively restricted behind a paywall.
Official Clarification: A Technical Oversight
In response to user concerns, Anthropic issued a prompt clarification via its official Reddit account. The company clarified that the reported billing changes were based on an "outdated and incorrect" support article.
The backend documentation had referenced billing restrictions prior to the official integration of the Opus4.5 model into the Pro plan. However, this warning was not removed after the model’s launch and inclusion in subscription benefits. Subsequent updates for Opus4.6 and 4.7 failed to correct this misleading text. Internal records confirm this was purely an error in document maintenance.
Subscription Benefits Unchanged; Opus Access Remains Free
Anthropic explicitly stated that Claude Pro privileges remain unchanged. Subscribers can continue to access and use the Opus series models without any additional fees during their subscription period.
