After three seasons, Amazon's live-action adaptation of Robert Jordan and Brandon Sanderson's The Wheel of Time series is concluding.
Although the show's third season was praised by fans as its best, Deadline reports Amazon has canceled it due to high production costs and declining viewership. Much like Amazon's The Rings of Power, The Wheel of Time was an attempt to create another Game of Thrones-level success. Its 2021 debut attracted a massive audience, making it one of Amazon's most-watched shows. However, viewership dropped in later seasons, prompting Amazon to end the series.
In an April interview with The Hollywood Reporter following Season 3, showrunner Rafe Judkins reflected on choosing Amazon as a partner, citing the studio's apparent commitment to long-term investment in its series.
"Not many places do that anymore," Judkins said. "For The Wheel of Time, it was crucial to be with a partner dedicated to building a show over time, not just seeking a momentary splash."
