As AI agents increasingly integrate into commercial applications, payment leader Alipay is expanding its footprint in this sector. On April 28, Alipay introduced "AI Pay," designed to offer merchants and independent developers streamlined, closed-loop commercial services.
This launch enables AI agents like OpenClaw (widely known in the industry as "Lobster") to connect with Alipay’s payment infrastructure via standardized interfaces. For developers, the primary benefit is "instant payment on request," which drastically simplifies billing and revenue distribution when intelligent agents deliver commercial services.
This initiative follows Alipay’s earlier release of "AI Pay." While the initial feature focused on enhancing the user payment experience, this new update addresses supply-side gaps by providing a comprehensive payment solution. Alipay has now established a two-way ecosystem for agent payments, covering both transaction processing and fund collection.
Industry experts note that as AI agents transition from basic information retrieval to complex service execution, the payment infrastructure supporting their commercial activities becomes crucial. By strengthening the agent payment ecosystem, Alipay offers developers new monetization channels and creates significant potential for future AI-driven business model innovations.
