Alibaba Cloud CTO Zhou Jingren to Temporarily Lead Qwen Model
Alibaba's Tongyi Lab has announced a major personnel reshuffle. Following the departure of former head Lin Junyang, Zhou Jingren — Alibaba Cloud CTO and head of Tongyi Lab — will officially take charge of the Qwen (Tongyi Qianwen) model.
In this reorganization, Liu Dayiheng, previously responsible for pre-training, now also leads the post-training and coding teams, reporting directly to Zhou Jingren alongside other core Qwen team members. Zhou, an Alibaba partner and technology leader, holds a Ph.D. in Computer Science from Columbia University. He previously worked at Microsoft Research and joined Alibaba in 2015, serving as Chief Scientist at Alibaba Cloud and Deputy Director of the DAMO Academy.

This swift restructuring underscores Alibaba's pursuit of stability in its core large model strategy. As a top-tier domestic large language model, the Qwen series is currently in a critical phase of model iteration and open-source ecosystem development. The expansion of Liu Dayiheng's authority indicates that research and development focus will further shift toward engineering applications and coding capabilities.
