Axios reports that the cuts will affect "74 postdocs, 57% of CHIPS staff focused on incentives," and "67% of CHIPS staff focused on R&D." Jason Green-Lowe, executive director of the Center for AI Policy (CAIP), expressed strong opposition to the planned cuts. "The move defies common sense and puts Americans at risk," he stated. "Throwing them out of the government deprives us of the eyes and ears we need to identify when AI is likely to trigger nuclear and biological risks. The savings would be trivial, but the cost to our national security would be immense," he added.
