Apple's App Store Reveals Best of 2024: AI Apps Dominate Annual Honors

Apple has unveiled its annual App Store Award winners, maintaining its tradition of honoring the standout apps and games from the past year.

This year’s top iPhone app is the visual planner Tiimo, while the iPhone game of the year title went to the card-based Pokémon TCG Pocket.

While Apple again refrained from selecting a dedicated AI app or chatbot as app of the year, artificial intelligence still featured prominently among the winners.

Tiimo, for example, is described as a visual AI planner that transforms to-do lists into structured plans with visual timelines. The app leverages AI to break down tasks into manageable schedules by estimating time requirements for each step.

Meanwhile, Detail, the iPad app of the year, streamlines video editing through its "Auto Edit" AI feature, which automatically removes silence, creates zoom cuts, and adds titles and captions.

Among Cultural Impact winners, StoryGraph employs machine learning AI to generate personalized book recommendations from reading data, while Be My Eyes provides an AI assistant that delivers visual descriptions of real-world images for blind and low-vision users.

Strava, named Apple Watch app of the year, incorporates an AI assistant that transforms workout data into actionable insights.
