Adobe has rolled out a significant update to its experimental camera app, Project Indigo, with the official release of version 1.1. The standout feature of this update is a new editing module driven by generative AI, which substantially elevates the mobile photography experience.
New Intelligent Photo Editing Capabilities
Within the AI Playground, users can effortlessly remove distracting elements or tweak lighting conditions with a single tap. The system generates shallow depth-of-field effects rivaling DSLR cameras and intelligently analyzes shots to offer tailored shooting and editing advice.
The app also allows for custom editing modes, enabling users to save specific prompts for future use. While these editing tools are robust, the application remains fundamentally a camera, designed to explore the potential of performing basic edits directly at the moment of capture.
Technical Infrastructure and Privacy Commitments
Powered by Google’s Nano Banana model, this feature may incorporate additional models in the future to operate in parallel. Currently, access is limited to a select group of users for free testing, with Adobe evaluating market response before deciding on a potential paid subscription model.
Addressing privacy and security, the official team has confirmed that user prompts and images are not uploaded to servers or used for model training. Notably, this functionality is restricted to photos captured within the app; importing external images is not yet supported.
