Payment platform Stripe has completed the acquisition of AI infrastructure startup OpenRouter for over $7 billion, more than five times OpenRouter’s previous Series B valuation of $1.3 billion. OpenRouter helps users select appropriate AI models based on their needs and budgets, offering a unified access point that avoids vendor lock-in. The company had 8 million global users accessing over 400 AI models as of recent funding rounds. The deal makes it one of the largest acquisitions in the AI infrastructure sector this year and expands Stripe’s reach into the core area of large model usage, strengthening its position in AI commercialization.
