SDK do Application Insights para JavaScript (Web) para TypeScript

Monitoramento de Usuários Reais (RUM) para aplicativos de navegador com @microsoft/applicationinsights-web. Coleta automaticamente visualizações de página, dependências AJAX/fetch, exceções não tratadas e (com o plug-in Click Analytics) cliques. Oferece suporte a eventos personalizados, métricas e rastreamentos de agente GenAI que seguem as convenções semânticas do OpenTelemetry GenAI e se correlacionam com spans de back-end por meio do W3C Trace Context.

Diferente do azure-monitor-opentelemetry-ts, que é destinado a aplicativos de servidor Node.js. Esta habilidade é para código de navegador/web (e React Native).

String de conexão

O SDK do navegador requer uma string de conexão no momento da inicialização. Ela é enviada em texto simples aos clientes — a autenticação do Microsoft Entra ID não é compatível com a telemetria do navegador. Use um recurso separado do App Insights com autenticação local habilitada para o RUM do navegador, caso precise isolá-lo da telemetria do back-end.

Marque os elementos com data-ai-* atributos; os cliques são emitidos como Eventos Personalizados com metadados de conteúdo pai.

Rastreamento de rotas em SPA

  • Integrado: defina enableAutoRouteTracking: true. Hooks history.pushState/replaceState e popstate.
  • React Router: use @microsoft/applicationinsights-react-js withAITracking HOC (consulte references/framework-extensions.md).
  • Manual: chame appInsights.trackPageView({ name, uri }) no seu roteador useEffect ao alterar a rota. Desative enableAutoRouteTracking para evitar contagem dupla.

Rastreamento Distribuído (correlacionar com o backend)

Defina distributedTracingMode: 2 (DistributedTracingModes.AI_AND_W3C). O SDK adiciona traceparent (e o Request-Id) aos tráfegos de saída fetch/XHR. Back-ends instrumentados com o OpenTelemetry (por exemplo, @azure/monitor-opentelemetry) se vinculam automaticamente ao `operation_Id` do navegador.

Para chamadas entre origens, defina também enableCorsCorrelation: true e adicione a origem da chamada aos cabeçalhos CORS expostos na API.

Rastreamentos do Agente GenAI (convenções semânticas do OTel)

Quando o navegador invoca um agente de IA (chamada de função, uso de ferramenta, chamadas de modelo diretamente do cliente), emita telemetria de dependência do App Insights cujos atributos sigam as convenções semânticas do OpenTelemetry GenAI, para que possam ser consultados juntamente com os spans dos agentes de back-end no App Insights / Log Analytics.

Defina primeiro o ambiente de adesão para que as instrumentações de back-end concordem com a mesma versão do esquema:

O traceparent é automaticamente anexado às chamadas de saída fetch (quando distributedTracingMode: 2), de modo que os spans do Azure OpenAI / back-end do agente a jusante ficam associados ao mesmo operation_Id no App Insights.

Amostragem

A amostragem de ingestão no lado do servidor (recomendada) é configurada no recurso do App Insights. A amostragem no lado do SDK reduz o uso da rede:

Amostragem por tipo via inicializador de telemetria: descarte com return false com base em item.baseType.

Offline / Enviar ao Descarregar

O SDK usa sendBeacon (padrão onunloadDisableBeacon: false) para esvaziar a memória ao pagehide / unload. Para SPAs, chame também appInsights.flush() antes de transições destrutivas (logout, recarregamento forçado).

Armadilhas comuns

  1. Não inicialize duas vezes. Reimportar o módulo em bundles diferentes gera visualizações duplicadas da página. Use uma única exportação de módulo compartilhada.
  2. Inicialize antes da primeira entrada do usuário para evitar a perda de cliques/exceções iniciais.
  3. A string de conexão é pública — nunca reutilize o mesmo recurso do App Insights para segredos do back-end.
  4. enableAutoRouteTracking + trackPageView manual = duplicatas. Escolha uma opção.
  5. O rastreamento distribuído CORS requer que a API permita Request-Id, Request-Context, traceparent, tracestate cabeçalhos de solicitação e expor Request-Context cabeçalho de resposta.
  6. Conteúdo sensível do GenAI (gen_ai.input.messages etc.) é do tipo “Opt-In” — nunca registre sem um sinalizador explícito de tempo de execução e tratamento de dados aprovado.
  7. O uso do token do agente ocorre em spans dchat, não em spans dinvoke_agent — copie o uso agregado para o span do agente pai somente se você tiver conhecimento disso.
  8. O StrictMode do React invoca efeitos duas vezes no ambiente de desenvolvimento — proteja loadAppInsights() com um singleton no nível do módulo.

Tamanho do pacote

O SDK completo para web tem 36110 KB minificado ( KB compactado com gzip). Para orçamentos restritos, use o caminho do script do carregador para que o SDK seja carregado de forma assíncrona fora do caminho crítico ou elimine plug-ins não utilizados.

Práticas recomendadas

  1. Uma instância singleton exportada de um único módulo.
  2. Inicialize logo no ponto de entrada do aplicativo, antes da configuração do roteador.
  3. Use inicializadores de telemetria para anexar app.version, tenantIde para remover informações de identificação pessoal (PII) e segredos de strings de consulta.
  4. Defina `distributedTracingMode: 2` e certifique-se de que suas APIs aceitem/exponham cabeçalhos de contexto de rastreamento do W3C.
  5. Para GenAI, siga os nomes de atributos do OTel gen_ai.* — eles podem ser consultados de maneira uniforme na telemetria do navegador e do back-end.
  6. Restrinja a captura de conteúdo confidencial (gen_ai.input.messages / gen_ai.output.messages) por meio de uma opção de adesão no momento da compilação ou em tempo de execução.
  7. Limpe o cache ao fazer logout ou durante navegação sensível para que a telemetria em andamento não seja perdida.

# Application Insights JavaScript SDK (Web) for TypeScript

Real User Monitoring (RUM) for browser apps with `@microsoft/applicationinsights-web`. Auto-collects page views, AJAX/fetch dependencies, unhandled exceptions, and (with the Click Analytics plugin) clicks. Supports custom events, metrics, and **GenAI agent traces** that follow OpenTelemetry GenAI semantic conventions and correlate to backend spans via W3C Trace Context.

> **Distinct from `azure-monitor-opentelemetry-ts`**, which is for Node.js server apps. This skill is for **browser/web** code (and React Native).

Typings ship with the package — no separate `@types/...` install needed.

## Connection String

The browser SDK requires a connection string at init time. **It ships in plaintext to clients** — Microsoft Entra ID auth is not supported for browser telemetry. Use a separate App Insights resource with local auth enabled for browser RUM if you need to isolate it from backend telemetry.

Call `loadAppInsights()` exactly once, as early as possible (before user interactions you want tracked). Then `trackPageView()` for the initial load — when `enableAutoRouteTracking` is on, subsequent route changes are automatic.

Mark elements with `data-ai-*` attributes; clicks are emitted as Custom Events with parent-content metadata.

## SPA Route Tracking

- **Built-in:** set `enableAutoRouteTracking: true`. Hooks `history.pushState/replaceState` and `popstate`.
- **React Router:** use `@microsoft/applicationinsights-react-js` `withAITracking` HOC (see [references/framework-extensions.md](references/framework-extensions.md)).
- **Manual:** call `appInsights.trackPageView({ name, uri })` in your router's `useEffect` on route change. Disable `enableAutoRouteTracking` to avoid double counting.

## Distributed Tracing (correlate to backend)

Set `distributedTracingMode: 2` (`DistributedTracingModes.AI_AND_W3C`). The SDK adds `traceparent` (and legacy `Request-Id`) to outbound `fetch`/`XHR`. Backends instrumented with **OpenTelemetry** (e.g. `@azure/monitor-opentelemetry`) auto-link to the browser's operation_Id.

For cross-origin calls, also set `enableCorsCorrelation: true` and add the calling origin to the **CORS exposed headers** on the API.

## GenAI Agent Traces (OTel semantic conventions)

When the browser invokes an AI agent (function-calling, tool-use, model calls direct from the client), emit App Insights **Dependency** telemetry whose attributes follow the OpenTelemetry **GenAI semantic conventions** so they are queryable alongside backend agent spans in App Insights / Log Analytics.

**Set the opt-in env first** so backend instrumentations agree on the same schema version:

`gen_ai.provider.name` well-known values: `openai`, `azure.ai.openai`, `azure.ai.inference`, `anthropic`, `aws.bedrock`, `gcp.gemini`, `gcp.vertex_ai`, `cohere`, `mistral_ai`, `groq`, `deepseek`, `perplexity`, `x_ai`, `ibm.watsonx.ai`.

> **Sensitive content opt-in.** `gen_ai.system_instructions`, `gen_ai.input.messages`, `gen_ai.output.messages`, `gen_ai.tool.call.arguments`, `gen_ai.tool.call.result` are **Opt-In** by default. Gate them behind a runtime flag and avoid them in production unless you have approved data handling.

The browser's `traceparent` is automatically attached to outbound `fetch` (when `distributedTracingMode: 2`), so downstream Azure OpenAI / agent backend spans hang under the same operation_Id in App Insights.

## Sampling

Server-side ingestion sampling (recommended) is configured on the App Insights resource. SDK-side sampling reduces network use:

Per-type sampling via telemetry initializer: drop with `return false` based on `item.baseType`.

## Offline / Send-on-Unload

The SDK uses `sendBeacon` (default `onunloadDisableBeacon: false`) to flush on `pagehide` / `unload`. For SPAs, also call `appInsights.flush()` before destructive transitions (logout, hard reload).

## Common Pitfalls

1. **Do not initialize twice.** Re-importing the module under different bundles produces duplicate page views. Use a single shared module export.
2. **Initialize before first user input** to avoid losing early clicks/exceptions.
3. **Connection string is public** — never reuse the same App Insights resource for backend secrets.
4. **`enableAutoRouteTracking` + manual `trackPageView`** = duplicates. Pick one.
5. **CORS distributed tracing** requires the API to allow `Request-Id`, `Request-Context`, `traceparent`, `tracestate` request headers and expose `Request-Context` response header.
6. **GenAI sensitive content** (`gen_ai.input.messages` etc.) is Opt-In — never log without an explicit runtime flag and approved data handling.
7. **Agent token usage is on `chat` spans, not `invoke_agent`** — copy aggregated usage to the parent agent span only if you know it.
8. **React StrictMode** double-invokes effects in dev — guard `loadAppInsights()` with a module-level singleton.

## Bundle Size

The full web SDK is ~110 KB minified (~36 KB gzipped). For aggressive budgets, use the **Loader Script** path so the SDK loads asynchronously off the critical path, or tree-shake unused plugins.

## Best Practices

1. **One singleton instance** exported from a single module.
2. **Initialize early** in the app entrypoint, before router setup.
3. **Use telemetry initializers** to attach `app.version`, `tenantId`, and to scrub PII / query-string secrets.
4. **Set `distributedTracingMode: 2`** and ensure your APIs accept/expose W3C trace context headers.
5. **For GenAI**, follow OTel `gen_ai.*` attribute names verbatim — they are queryable across browser and backend telemetry uniformly.
6. **Gate sensitive content capture** (`gen_ai.input.messages` / `gen_ai.output.messages`) behind a build-time or runtime opt-in.
7. **Flush on logout / sensitive navigation** so in-flight telemetry isn't dropped.
