The “New Forces of Chinese Literature” event was held at the 21st Changchun Film Festival on August 24. Attendees included literary figures, film talent and experts who discussed promoting synergy between literature and film. Several agreements were signed including ones for digital and AIGC transformation of literary IPs, along with the release of a list of 15 transformable literary works for 2026. Qi Huadong, vice chairman of the China Writers Association, said China’s literary sector now includes online, amateur and genre works alongside new media forms, with boundaries expanding into more social areas. He urged creators to uphold quality while collaborating across media to integrate literature with film, games and other arts. Industry data shows 59% of the top 100 popular TV series in 2025 are literary adaptations, and the online literary IP adaptation market grew 23.13% year on year to 367.61 billion yuan in 2025. The festival also offered platforms for young talent through awards, support programs and university collaborations, aiming to boost coordinated development between literature and film and produce higher quality cultural works.
